CineGlobe, the international festival of films inspired by science, returns to the CERN Science Gateway and the Globe of Science and Innovation in 2025 under the theme "Intertwined". With a jam-packed programme combining film, art, technology and scientific innovation, CineGlobe explores the fascinating connections between quantum entanglement and cinematic art, in complete harmony with the International Year of Quantum Sciences and Technologies.
This year, 56 short films and immersive works from 17 countries will be in competition in four categories (fiction, youth, documentary, immersive), reflecting the diversity of forms and views on science.
Among this year's highlights, CineGlobe and the CERN Science Gateway are joining forces with European Museum Night on 17 May, with an evening of tales, legends and quantum visions.
The full line-up of events is available here, and will feature many immersive experiences:
- Animation workshop: create your own film with a fairground studio in Georges’ cinema, and discover the magic of motion in images with an iconic early cinema device, the Zoetrope.
- Low-tech Cine-Science: try out this little-known technique for making animated movies by engraving, revisited by the artist Alexandre Noyer with Pin screen; manufacture your recycled pinhole cameras with Tetrapak, and modify a strip of old movie trailer film stock with Moviola.
- The Virtual Reality zone hosted by Virtual Switzerland throughout the week
And of course, like every year, a variety of screenings and round-table discussions will be organised, kicking off, on opening night, with the documentary The Thinking Game, centred on Demis Hassabis and DeepMind, which will be followed by a debate on artificial intelligence and the associated challenges.
CineGlobe is open to all and, as always, admission is free. The 2025 edition will honour all the researchers, engineers, artists and technicians who are constantly pushing back the boundaries of knowledge. Join us at CERN from 14 to 18 May.
