Pint of Science 2025

Grab a pint with CERN scientists and explore the universe’s hidden secrets.

Tuesday, 20 May 2025

What happens when cutting-edge science steps out of the lab and into your local bar? You get Pint of Science: a global science festival where some of the brightest minds in research share their work in a more relaxed setting.

Each year in May, Pint of Science takes over more than 400 cities across the globe for three nights of science, storytelling, and curiosity. The festival is built on a simple idea: make science accessible and engaging for everyone, no background required. In Switzerland, this initiative is run entirely by a volunteer-driven, not-for-profit association made up of scientists and science enthusiasts.

This year, CERN joins the festivities in Geneva with a special evening dedicated to the wonders of particle physics and its real-world applications. The event takes place on Wednesday, 21 May at 6:30 p.m. at iPub (Bd Carl-Vogt 20, 1205 Geneva), and it's free of charge.

Manuela Cirilli, Medical Applications Adviser at CERN, will explore how technologies developed for particle physics are now transforming medicine. From treating cancer with particle beams to using advanced computing in drug discovery, and adapting subatomic detectors for biomedical imaging, this talk will reveal how physics is shaping the future of healthcare.

Clara Nellist, Assistant Professor at the University of Amsterdam and scientist at CERN, will take audiences deep into the heart of matter. Her talk will explore how particle physicists use powerful machines like the Large Hadron Collider to unlock the secrets of the universe—from the discovery of the Higgs boson to ongoing research into dark matter and antimatter.

Come for the science, stay for the pints. This is your chance to meet the minds behind some of the most exciting research in the world!
